US President Barack Obama has pledged to become a world leader on climate change and, together with Joe Biden, has come up with a comprehensive plan to invest in alternative and renewable energy and end reliance on foreign oil as well as addressing the issue of global warming.
The Obama-Biden New Energy for America plan will see $150 billion investment over the next 10 years to build a clean energy future and will see 10% of US electricity come from renewable resources by 2012 and 25% by 2025. Also, the implementation of an economy-wide cap-and-trade programme to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.
