A training course to help bring development organisations up to speed on the latest climate change thinking will take place at Kimmage Development Studies Centre, Dublin from 3rd to 5th February 2009.
The three day event will help organisations design ways of more effectively integrating climate change into development planning processes by presenting an up-to-date understanding of climate science and developing knowledge of climate change adaptation by working on case studies which explore how best to build resilience of vulnerable communities.
Participants will also be encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of the links between climate change and other development imperatives, such as poverty reduction, disaster risk reduction and social justice. They will also learn about working at policy level to effect change through campaigning and joint advocacy networks within Ireland and internationally and will be encouraged to gain renewed insights into their own role in taking the understanding of climate change into the core of their organisations.
The course is aimed at home and field-based staff of Irish and international NGOs, environment and development educators and campaigners, government personnel and independent consultants.
The course will be facilitated by lecturers from Kimmage Development Studies Centre with inputs by climate policy specialists from Trocaire, Irish Aid and Friends of the Earth.
