A three-day training course on Climate Change and Development – Impacts, Responses and Policy will take place at Kimmage Development Studies Centre, Dublin from 18-20 November.
The interactive training course is designed to build knowledge and capacity within development organisations to bring them up to speed on the latest climate change thinking and design ways of more effectively integrating climate into development planning processes.
By taking the course participants will get an up-to-date understanding of climate science and current and predicted human development impacts on poor communities. They will also explore the roles and motivations of different actors in the international climate negotiation process and develop knowledge of climate change adaptation through working on case studies which explore how best to build resilience of vulnerable communities.
The course will also give participants a deeper understanding of the links between climate change and other development imperatives such as poverty reduction, disaster risk reduction and social justice. They will learn about working at the policy level to effect change through campaigning and joint advocacy networks within Ireland and internationally and gain renewed insights into their own role in taking the understanding of climate change into the core of their organisations.
The course, which will include inputs by climate specialists from Trocaire and Friends of the Earth Ireland, is aimed at home and field-based staff of Irish and International NGOs, environment and development educators and campaigners, government personnel and independent consultants with specific interest or responsibility for this area.
