A new report highlighting potential problems and solutions of climate change has been published by the Irish government.
The report, released on 5th October, discusses the potential impacts of climate change on Irish cultural and natural heritage and for the tourism sector.
Environment minister, John Gormley, hopes the report will help towards developing a National Climate Change Adaptation Framework and Ireland’s Climate Change Bill, both of which are currently being drafted.
The report, called Climate Change Report, was jointly launched by the Heritage Council and Failte Ireland at the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin.
Mr Gormley said: “Climate change presents an immediate and significant threat to our natural and built environments and to ways of life which co-exist within these environments. It’s happening and even if we are successful in terms of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, the impacts from the build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is something we are going to have to grapple with for many decades to come.”
