Join in the People’s Climate global day of action! ~ September 21

Momentum is building for the People’s Climate global day of action this Sunday 21st September. All around the world people will be praying or marching or attending other events calling for climate justice in the run up to the landmark UN climate summit in New York headed up by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Like so many of us who care about the future of our planet, Ban Ki-moon knows that, unless rapid action is taken soon, the world is headed for a climate catastrophe. That’s why he’s called this summit now, with numerous heads of states and governments attending.

There are events taking place in various parts of the country. Click here to find the one nearest to you.

Bring a friend, food or just come for fun but make sure you’re there to be part of this historic moment! Click here to find out more.

We want to send a strong message to Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who will be attending the UN climate summit, that people in Ireland care about climate change. We care that climate change will impact upon the things and places we all love. And we care that world leaders are not doing enough.

Faith communities worldwide are also encouraged to join in a global wave of prayer by offering the following prayer on Sunday 21st September …

Creator God,
You have called us to be keepers of your Earth;
Through greed, we have established an economy that destroys the web of life.
We have changed our climate and drown in despair.
Let oceans of justice flow,
May we learn to sustain and renew the Life of our Mother, Earth
We pray for our leaders, custodians of Mother Earth, as they gather in New York City at the climate talks
May they negotiate with wisdom and fairness,
May they act with compassion and courage, and lead us in the path of justice for the sake of our children and our children’s children.

~ Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote this prayer specially for the upcoming UN climate summit
