A one-day seminar on ‘Transitioning to a Low-Carbon Society’ will take place in Cloughjordan Ecovillage, Co Tipperary on June 22.
The event, which will be led by Prof Peadar Kirby and Bruce Darrell, will place the everyday issues of sustainability and resilience that the Cloughjordan ecovillage seeks to model into a wider global context.
The seminar will examine how we might address the need to transition towards a low-carbon society by around 2050 to avoid what scientists increasingly warn could otherwise result in catastrophic consequences for human livelihoods. It points to the huge uncertainty facing humankind yet highlights the positive benefits that lie in store if we can make the transition in a planned and ordered way.
The day will include a tour of the ecovillage and will be conducted in an interactive way combining input with active participation and sharing. It is open to anyone who is interested in the issues being examined and does not require any prior level of knowledge.
The seminar will take place from 11am to 5pm.
Cost: €50 early bird / €70 after June 15
