The Irish government desperately needs to prioritise climate change. And a climate law needs to come out of the review of the programme for government.
To encourage Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Minister John Gormley to put climate issues high on their agenda, join in an email action at http://www.foe.ie/takeaction/email-john-gormley-and-brian-cowen/. http://www.foe.ie/takeaction/email-john-gormley-and-brian-cowen/ now! Ireland has a chance to push climate negotiations forward, but we can’t do this when our own emissions are so high. We lack international credibility on climate as we are currently the 6th worst polluter in the developed world with carbon footprints of 17.5 tonnes per person. The simple solution is to put in place a firm legal commitment to reduce these emissions.
This is why Friends of the Earth has organised an email petition to tell our leaders to pass a climate law before the UN climate talks in Copenhagen in December.
