A new initiative in Dublin sees Christians signing up to ‘Serve the City’. It is aimed at those wanting to show God to those in need, the poor and marginalised in their communities but who don’t know where or how to start.
The group was started by volunteers from different church groups who partner with different organisations (e.g. Alone, Habitat for Humanity, local county councils) to serve those in their local areas who need practical support.
This has ranged from gardening and painting, to food hampers, homeless banquets, and mini concerts with people from a wide range of faith traditions, or no faith tradition, serving together. The group believes that local churches have the opportunity before them to lead the way in impacting local communities with God’s love.
You, or people you know, may be willing to serve but you just don’t know of opportunities in your local community. Perhaps you are aware of needs but are not sure how to go about starting a project. Perhaps you need more volunteers to help carry out a work or idea in your local area.
Why not sign up to serve on one of our ‘Serve Days’? Or you might be interested in starting up a Serve The City in another city in Ireland?
