Take part in Trócaire’s Lenten online action!

trocaireTrócaire’s Lenten campaign this year focuses on poverty in Honduras, and in particular the struggle for land by a brave community called La Confianza.

The little girl on this year’s Trócaire box, Digna (which means dignity), was held with her mother at gunpoint in January by armed men. She and her family are in danger – and your action can keep them safe by standing in solidarity with them.

You can take part in Trócaire’s online e-action to defend human rights in Honduras by going to http://www.trocaire.org/defend.

Digna is only six-years-old. In January she was held at gunpoint by the private security guards of a rich landowner who want her and her family off land they rightfully own.

In Northern Honduras struggles over land can be a matter of life and death. Those who fight for the right to own land regularly face intimidation, violence and even murder.

The government has promised Digna’s community title to this land but has not delivered, leaving her and 518 other families at the mercy of a wealthy landowner. The intimidation and violence go unpunished in Digna’s country. There are no investigations, no prosecutions and there is no justice.

You can help to keep Digna safe by asking the President of Honduras to give her community their land and immediately bring to justice those who commit these crimes.
