Please remember to pray for world leaders as they take part in the UN climate summit in Cancun, Mexico from November 30 to December 10.
Delegates from 190 countries hope COP16 will build on last year’s Copenhagen Accord and establish a platform for future COP meetings.
Even the most optimistic observers are saying that it is less likely that a binding agreement on climate change will be reached this year than at last year’s COP15 in Copenhagen and that the talks will simply be a ‘stepping stone’ for future events.
You might like to use the following prayer ~
Creator Spirit,
The wonder of your universe fills us with awe,
The beauty of your creation makes us stop in our tracks
And pause and reflect on all that You have made.
We confess that we have taken your many gifts for granted,
Instead of cherishing, we have plundered,
Instead of nurturing, we have abused.
Forgive us, we pray,
And show us how to live in more sustainable ways.
We pray for a positive and fruitful outcome
To the UN climate summit in Cancun.
We pray that our world leaders would have
The wisdom, courage and compassion
To agree a just, fair and ambitious climate deal
For the sake of all, remembering especially
Those already suffering as a result of climate change. Amen.
