Westport Eco-Congregation was delighted to represent One Westport at the Mayo County Cathaoirleach Awards in March. One Westport – an umbrella group representing the numerous environmental and social groups in Westport – received an award for community endeavour and engagement – their submission outlined all the wonderful environmental work being carried out in Westport by groups such as Tidy Towns, Community Garden, Edible Landscapes, circular economy event, Autism Friendly town and Westport Eco-Congregation.

Westport Eco-Congregation completed their course – Climate Action for the over 60s.  This course was facilitated by Jacinta Barrins. Jacinta is a wonderful communicator and delivered a most informative and thought provoking course on climate change in a very user friendly way. The group met for 5 weeks to understand the issues facing our country in terms of Climate Change and were then asked to consider what change(s) they could make personally to reduce their carbon footprint.  After a five week gap the group came together to discuss their actions and decisions.  I would highly recommend any group to consider this course.  As a result of this course the group have decided to continue meeting throughout the year and bring in more speakers on various aspects of Climate Change.
