ECI Climate Justice Candle Visits St Anne’s Parish, Shankill

Kathie Davey sent us this report:

We have had rather low-key celebrations of the Season of Creation this year partly because we had only recently been stunned by the sudden death of Justin Kilcullen who was co-founder and chairman of SAGE (Shankill Action for a Green Earth).

We did, however, have weekly paragraphs in the parish newsletter highlighting how our actions (large and small) and lifestyles affect our world together with special prayers for climate justice and biodiversity concerns and lively hymns with similar messages.

The weekend on which we received the candle, at each Mass we processed it up to the altar with the hymn The Light of Christ has come into the world.

Here are the words we used in the procession of the candle at the Masses on Sunday, 29th Sept, 2024:

Response : The Light of Christ has come into the world

The Light of Christ has come into the world.

All of us must be born again

To see the Kingdom of God

That all Creation is His work

And we are here to cherish it

Response  The Light of Christ……

God has given all that’s good

And we must share with each other.

If one takes more that leaves others less

And we’re really not one family.

Response. The Light of Christ ….

May this light show us how to live

In harmony with nature

And living simply all may find

True peace and togetherness.

Response, The Light of Christ has come into the world,

The Light of Christ has come into the world.

Thanks again for this opportunity to focus on our responsibility to look after God’s beautiful gift, our world.
