The European Churches Environmental Network (ECEN) holds an assembly every two years, which brings together people from organisations like ECI as well as eco theologians from across the continent. Our Chairperson Andrew attended this year’s assembly held in Roskilde, Denmark on the theme “Every part of creation matters”.
The keynote address was given by Bishop Emeritus Peter Fischer-Moller, and there were panel discussions with theologians and politicians. The attendees got to share ideas and actions, and view eco projects run by the Churches in Denmark, such as the Lutheran church’s project to train all 2000 cemetery staff in promoting biodiversity!
It is great to see so many churches across Europe organising to protect their environment: the most moving moment came from the speaker from Ukraine who emphasised the need to inspire the next generation even in the midst of the war. The participants also got to take part in worship in Roskilde Cathedral, in a Vineyard Independent Church, and in the local parish church, the oldest in Denmark. The next assembly will be held in 2025.
