Climate Camp ~ August 12-16

Climate Camp 2010 promises to be an inspiring community event of sustainable living, including fun workshops for all ages and the opportunity to meet like-minded people and take direct action on the root causes of climate change. Because nature doesn’t do bailouts!

Climate Camp 2010 takes place from 12th to 16th August at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 road between Dublin and Derry

As far back as 1989, the Southern California Association of Governments concluded that traffic-assistance measures, like adding lanes, would have no more than a cosmetic effect on Los Angeles’ traffic problems. They concluded that building more highways and widening existing roads, does nothing to reduce traffic, and instead causes traffic to increase. The same view has become consensus among planners on continental Europe in recent years.
Trying to cure traffic congestion by adding more capacity is like trying to cure obesity by loosening your belt. We can’t tarmac our way out of this mess!

The aims of Climate Camp are:

To take direct action against the root causes of climate change
To build a movement
To create a space for education
To demonstrate a model of sustainable living
To join the (low volume-few emails) announcements mailing list: simply send an email to [email protected].

The organising of the camp is open to everyone. If you want to be more involved there are small groups who look after specific aspects of the camp. We’re always looking for new people so please get involved. If you want to get actively involved you can subscribe yourself to the discussion list for Climate Camp by sending a blank email to [email protected]
