Creation Hour at Church of St Therese, Mount Merrion, Dublin

Clodagh O’Reilly sent ECI this update:

Creation Hour was our contribution to Climate Sunday, and we were delighted to hold this event during the Season of Creation. Drawing on Balally parish’s Earth Day ’21 Prayer Service, and led by our Care for Creation group, our celebration of Creation commenced with a reading from ‘Laudato Si” and some background context to the current Climate and Biodiversity crises.

There then followed a rolling programme of reflective music, readings, poetry, and video recordings of the Dawn Chorus and the Cry of the endangered Curlew. Filling the vault of the church with the songs and calls of birds resulted in an astonishing sound, and a visual mirroring of a forest canopy. Our celebration aimed to express both the uplifting and groaning aspects of Creation – especially within the bird community – and how both we and creation are interconnected and interdependent. The afternoon concluded with the exchange of autumnal seeds, in readiness for Spring.
