The Belfast Cycle City Campaign has been running for over a year, calling for –
(1) A target of 10% of all journeys in Belfast to be made by bike by 2020
(2) Increase in spending on cycling from £1-£3 to £15 per person per year
(3) A 2010-2020 cycling strategy detailing how 10% cycling can be achieved.
A Cycle Vision Conference held in Belfast on 1st June 2010 was hugely successful, with 200 people attending, compared to the expected 50-100.
It was decided that it is now time to expand the team and new vibrant volunteers are invited to bring their skills and energy to the campaign.
Possible future campaign actions will include a protest over one-way cycling in Donegal Place and the writing of an Economic Benefits of Cycling report.
Passionate cyclists are invited to come along to Belfast Cycle City Meeting, Monday 28th June at 7.30pm in Black Box, Cathedral Quarter, 18-22 Hill Street, Belfast BT1 2LA. For further info contact Andrew McMurray, Co-ordinator Belfast Friends of the Earth. Tel:07909900883.
