The Climate Justice Candle has seen much of the Parish of Listowel. It has been wonderful.
We hosted special climate themed masses on the weekend the candle arrived. The Parish Youth Group Listowel has been involved with the organisation and spreading awareness. Petitions from the community were gathered and prayed over at these masses also.
The candle visited the secondary schools in the parish.
As part of the visit, a student liaison with the local parish, provided information, along with the climate justice prayer.
That was read out to all classes, highlighting the Pope’s call for a renewed spirit of care and mission for our shared home. Teachers shared three videos in classes, outlining the last papal environmental encyclical, Laudatory Si, in a familiar and relatable way. The video’s are very good and very accessible for teens and young audiences. A further video from Rome Reports was shared also about the pope’s message regarding Climate Action. These were used as RE class discussion prompts.
