Carmel O’Neill sent ECI this latest news:
To mark the season of Creation, a mass of thanksgiving was held in Blessington church to celebrate the work of our Tidy Towns volunteers and Green Schools members in all 4 primary schools. The school children from St Mary’s brought up gifts symbolising the gifts of creation and a book on the amazing world of the bees. A picture of St Francis of Assisi was included as he is the patron saint of ecologists. Prayers of Thanksgiving were offered for our volunteers who work tirelessly in all weathers and also prayers of intercession for alll who have suffered the consequences of climate change in recent months.
Blessington Tidy Towns had another reason to rejoice and celebrate on Sept 29th as they secured the all Ireland Schools award for their projects with all four schools in the locality. One of the projects Edible Blessington which was launched a few years ago encourages children to grow their own food and appreciate the benefits of being self sufficient.
Deacon Gerry Malone visited the farming community in the townlands around Lacken Valleymount for the annual blessing of the stock during the month of October. Deacon Gerry revived this traditional blessing which was part of parish life up until the 1970’s.
The blessing is becoming more relevant and appreciated as farmers face into the winter months at a time of uncertainty on the future of farming and the effects of continual rain on land that is increasingly saturated.
