Lorcan McDermott sent ECI this latest news:
The Orlagh-in-the-City community was very pleased to recently receive the ECI Endeavour Award. This gives recognition to our efforts to move towards greater environmental awareness and action. We celebrated this award at one of our Season of Creation ‘garden Masses’ in Kilmacud. This was also an opportunity to prepare for forthcoming United Nations meetings on climate change and biodiversity, with prayers of intercession for their success. The community was encouraged to sign the Healthy Planet Healthy People petition. Livestreaming helped connect with members who were not physically present.
The petition calls on world leaders at forthcoming UN meetings to take action, based on the science to respond to current crises and safeguard our common home. It can be accessed at http://thecatholicpetition.org/
The community has recently been presented with an opportunity regarding a different type of ‘ecology’. We are considering our response to the outcome of the recent Root and Branch lay synod, the ‘Bristol Text’ which contains proposals for reform of Catholic governance structures, ministry and Canon Law.
Covid has encouraged us to walk local. Our recent visit to the Blessington Street Basin, Dublin’s secret garden less than ten minutes from Parnell Square was quite a surprise!
