In direct contrast to the summer solstice, the winter solstice, or midwinter occurs when one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt away from the sun. This is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year. This year, An Tairseach Dominican Ecology Centre‘s Winter Solstice Celebration will take place on Saturday 21st December, 4pm to 6pm. There will be a small ceremony and light refreshments afterwards.
