Barbara Fleming and Miriam Mooney from the Parish of The Three Patrons, Rathgar sent ECI the following report:
The Laudato Si group in the parish of The Three Patrons, Rathgar received an Endeavour Certificate from Eco-Congregation Ireland in recognition of their on-going commitment to the care of “our common home”.
It was presented at all three Masses on September 30th 2018 when the final hymn was the appropriate “All creatures of our God and King” ending with the rousing “O praise Him, O praise Him! Alleluia, alleluia.” Over the preceding months the bidding prayers had included the environment so it was indeed appropriate on that Sunday to focus on the wonder of God’s creation and our responsibility to care for Our Common Home (especially relevant on that day a few days before the feast of St Francis on Oct 4th).
Later two members of the Laudato Si group proudly carried aloft the framed Endeavour Award (we were pleased that the frame was a re-used one from a charity shop) which they then placed on the decorated altar beside a basket of harvest fruits and vegetables. The communion reflection was Pope Francis’ Prayer for Our Earth from “Laudato Si”. After all 3 Masses leaflets were distributed with “Suggestions for Action for Parishioners” (13 general, 13 re plastic).
