Apple Tree planting took place in the two churches in Ballymacelligott Parish on Sunday 4 December 2016 …. another step in the Earth Week 2016 Laudato Si – Biodiversity Project.
Later some wildflowers were planted too by parishoners … oxeye daisies, foxgloves and teasels and finally some crocus, all helping to give food for endangered bees as part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (http://www.biodiversityireland.ie/projects/irish-pollinator-initiative/all-ireland-pollinator-plan/) and a insect/bug hotel was installed too. More wildflower seeds will be sown in the spring.
The parishioners of Ballymacelligott would like to thank Cathy Fisher, Kerry Co Council Biodiversity Officer, Niamh Ni Dhúill their Biodiversity Tutor and to the Community Support Fund of Kerry County Council.
How fantastic if every parish created their own biodiversity space as is happening in Kenmare, Tuosist, Lixnaw, Dromtariffe, Glengariff, St. Brendans, Tralee, Killorglin and Duagh!
