Global Divestment Day & ‘For the Love of…’ ~ 13th & 14th February

Many events will take place around the world during the weekend of February 13/14 2015 to mark Global Divestment Day. As the fossil fuel industry throws more money at fossil fuel expansion, environmentalists throughout the globe will be turning up the volume of the divestment movement.

To keep within the ‘safe’ two degrees Celsius warming limit, 80% of fossil fuel reserves must stay in the ground.

A divestment event is planned in Dublin for 2.30pm on Saturday 14th. Keep an eye on the Go Fossil Free website for other events that may be added.

The weekend, which coincides with St Valentine’s Day, is a perfect opportunity for churches and communities to explore – in worship and action – love for God’s Creation. Our sister organisation, Eco-Congregation Scotland, has prepared some great resources to help you do just that. To download them, click here.

DSC01115This is part of the broader For the Love of … campaign, which recognises that everyone loves something that is threatened by climate change. People are asked to share what these things are, and to join together to demand climate action, for the sake of all the things that matter most.

The children of Rathfarnham Quaker Meeting in Dublin enjoyed making a For the Love of … tree. Each wrote or drew on a heart something that they love that is at risk of climate change – including chocolate, family members, favourite beaches etc.
