All around the globe people are choosing to pray and fast for climate justice on the first day of each month. Eco-Congregation Ireland joins with A Rocha, Christian Aid, Operation Noah, Tearfund, CAFOD, Our Voices and other organisations in promoting this initiative.
People may choose to fast and pray for the whole day, or to skip one meal, or carbon-fast for the day, or perhaps organise a prayer event on the first day of each month. It’s up to you! The main thing is to create a wave of prayer that spreads far and wide with particular focus on a global climate agreement being reached at next year’s UN climate talks in Paris.
We owe it to future generations and those already impacted by climate change, especially those in developing countries, to do all in our power to reverse global warming.
Check out the Pray and Fast for the Climate website here.
Operation Noah has resources to support times of prayer and reflection, including topical prayers each month regarding key meetings and negotiations. See here to find out more.
Christian Aid has also produced a climate fast prayer and resources, which you can see by clicking here.
There has surely never been a more critical time to pray and fast for the climate. God has asked us to care for the living earth and to love our neighbours; we haven’t exactly been doing a great job of this. As Operation Noah says, “Our prayers and fasting will help build a powerful platform for change, and strengthen us as we campaign and inspire others.”
