For Christians, Lent is traditionally a time of reflection leading to renewal of the Spirit. Bearing this in mind, Just Forests – a non-profit organisation that highlights sustainable education development and sustainable forest management – has recently launched a Just Lent campaign.
Just Forests has come up with five concerns that it believes need to be addressed if society is to make meaningful impact towards a more just and sustainable world.
The five ways in which it believes we can put Ireland on a genuine sustainable footing, while dealing with climate change, species decline, global poverty and human-rights issues are:
Pledge 1 – Increase Ireland’s Woodland Cover
Pledge 2 – Conserve Rain Forests
Pledge 3 – Stop the Slaughter
Pledge 4 – Support Irish Jobs
Pledge 5 – Support Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
