The Irish government could save up to €100 million in a couple of years if it stopped the waste of energy in public buildings, according to Dublin Friends of the Earth.
A new report entitled ‘Cuts That Don’t Hurt’ shows that high-spending government ministers are not taking the lead in ending costly energy waste in thousands of buildings – schools, hospitals, health centres and many others, where heating is set too high and lights and computers left on when no-one is present.
Dublin Friends of the Earth is calling on the government to implement an urgent programme to stop this “appalling waste” at a time of huge cuts in services. Official figures show how much money – and emissions – can be saved.
