‘The Ice Age: local landscape analysis and creation spirituality’ is the title of a summer school taking place in The Colomban Ecological Institute, Dalgan, Navan, Co Meath from July 16-19 (9.30-16.30 each day). The presenter will be Dr John Feehan of University College Dublin.
The summer school will look at the landscape evidence for the Ice Age in Co Meath and adjacent areas and, against this background, explore the human encounter with the natural world and the spiritual implications of that encounter.
Consideration of geological and cosmic time is a key element in contemporary creation spirituality, and the last two million years – during which the northern hemisphere experienced the Ice Age – were of particular significance for the emergence and development of humankind. This is a story that can only be fully appreciated through personal experience – direct encounter with the evidence.
The work programme will include lectures and discussions, field visits and microscope encounters: with a full day’s outing further afield on one day. Special emphasis will be placed on the natural history interest of the sites visited.
The cost, including tuition and bus hire for the four days, is €250. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch each day. If you wish to attend, please send a non-refundable deposit of €50 to Elizabeth McArdle, at the above address. Registration begins at 9.00 on July 16th 2008 at Dalgan.
