Churchtown Quakers, Dublin, recently showed No Impact Man – a film about a New York family who spend a year living without creating an impact on the environment.
Showing the film is a brilliant way to encourage people to think about their carbon footprints and to consider what changes they can make in their own lives to walk more lightly on the earth.
Once Colin Beavan decided to completely eliminate his personal impact on the environment for a year, he had to convince his retail-loving, caffeine- and TV-obsessed wife, Michelle. Their two-year-old daughter took less convincing and was happy to switch to ‘real’ nappies!
Creating no impact meant buying only local food, eating vegetarian, switching off the electricity, no elevators, cars, buses or aeroplanes, no material consumption and no waste.
Could your church show the film and invite the local community to watch it too? You never know what kind of an impact it will have!
