A three-day interactive training course – Climate Change and Development – Impacts and Responses – will take place at Kimmage Development Studies Centre, Dublin, from June 15-17.
The course is designed to build knowledge and capacity within development organisations to bring them up to speed on the latest climate change thinking and design ways of more effectively integrating climate into development planning processes.
Course Content :
– Climate Change science, evidence and impacts
-Current and predicted human development impacts
– International policy making on climate change – what progress since Copenhagen?
– Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Livelihoods
– Campaigning for Climate Justice
By the end of the course participants will have:
– an up-to-date understanding of the scientific basis and development impacts of climate change;
– have explored the roles and motivations of different actors in the international climate change negotiation process;
– developed knowledge of climate change adaptation, through working on case studies which explore how best to build resilience of vulnerable communities;
– gained a deeper understanding of the links between climate change and other development imperatives such as poverty reduction, disaster risk reduction and social justice;
– learned about working at the policy level to effect change through campaigning and joint advocacy networks within Ireland and internationally;
– gained renewed insights into their own role in taking the understanding of climate change into the core of their organisations.
Who is it for:
Home and field-based staff of Irish and international NGOs, environment and development educators and campaigners, government personnel and independent consultants with specific interest or responsibility for this area.
Trainers:
The course will be facilitated by lecturers from KDSC, with inputs by climate policy specialists from Oxfam and Friends of the Earth Ireland.
