Climate Week ~ 21st to 27th March

A Climate Week will take place across the UK, including Northern Ireland, from 21st – 27th March 2011.

Climate Week is a supercharged national occasion involving thousands of events profiling solutions that help to address climate change. It offers a renewal of our ambition and confidence to combat climate change. It is for everyone wanting to do their bit to protect our planet and create a secure future.

Climate Week will shine a spotlight on the many positive steps already being taken in workplaces and communities across the UK. The power of these real, practical examples – the small improvements and the big innovations – will then inspire millions more people.

Thousands of businesses, charities, schools, churches, councils and others will run events that will show what can be achieved, share ideas and encourage thousands more to act during the rest of the year.

You can help create a massive movement for change by making Climate Week happen where you are. Ask an organisation or group you know, such as your church, workplace or local school, to run an event.

The Northern Ireland Climate Change Impacts Partnership (NICCIP) is providing a promotional framework to offer leadership on this crucial agenda in Northern Ireland. It offers organisations the opportunity to showcase the very best of their environmental activities and actions, no matter how big or small.

Organisations from every part of society – at work, through education, and in the community – will be running events to highlight the positive steps being taken. This provides a promotional platform for those already doing something, along with some positive reinforcement. There are also lots of opportunities to win prestigious awards, such as ‘Best Educational Initiative’, ‘Most Inspirational Young Person’, and ‘Best Initiative by a Governmental or Statutory Body’.

Climate Week is endorsed by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, and the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. International support comes from figures such as the former US Vice President, Al Gore, and the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan. Celebrities such as Michael Palin and Sienna Miller, and football clubs like Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are also involved.
