Our Daily Bread: Food Security, People and Planet is the title of a Christian Ecology Link Justice and Peace weekend conference taking place in the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire from 16-18 July.
Food is so essential a part of our lives that the “breaking of bread” with others celebrates love, mutuality and the gifts of the natural world. Yet the global food system upon which we depend is increasingly fragile.
Speakers at the conference will include Alastair McIintosh, author of ‘Soil, Soul and Society’ and Vandana Shiva. Workshop leaders will include CEL patron, Tim Gorringe, and authors, Fr Sean McDonagh and Edward Echlin, who recently published ‘Climate and Christ’.
A Big Food Debate will be chaired by John Vidal, the Guardian’s
Environment Editor, with a panel including Patrick Mulvany from the
UK Food Group and Alison Austin from Sainsburys.
CEL’s LOAF principles will be prominent and the food will be following
them as far as possible. Many CEL members are giving workshops and
helping to organise the conference.
