Saving the rainforests is an essential first step to avoid the catastrophic consequences of climate change.
The Prince’s Rainforest Project has just released a new online, interactive booklet that describes how rainforests are on the front line in the fight against climate change and explains how a new form of international collaboration could help to reduce tropical deforestation, with many benefits for developed and developing countries.
Deforestation releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than all the world’s cars, planes and ships put together. Healthy rainforests absorb up to 10% of man’s carbon emissions. The Amazon rainforest releases 20 billion tonnes of moisture every day, helping to water crops thousands of miles away.
The online book, which features beautiful photographs by Daniel Beltrá and a foreword by HRH The Prince of Wales, also contains eyewitness stories from internationally-recognised figures who have already endorsed the PRP proposals, including Sir David Attenborough, Chief Almir of the Suruí tribe and Jared Diamond.
“If we lose the battle against tropical deforestation, we lose the battle against climate change,” says Prince Charles.
