Whitechurch Parish, Dublin has an enviable recycling record, even finding a new use for a disused font by transforming it into a bird bath, which now takes pride of place in its eco flower bed. The grounds are also home to a bat house and a bird feeder as well as several compost bins.
The parish has drawn up an environmental policy and has an eco congregation notice board, which is devoted entirely to ecological matters. Last December parishioners took part in the Sound the Alarm for Action on Climate Change and ‘Ideas for an eco-friendly Christmas’ were printed in the parish magazine.
Whitechurch is an active member of the Three Rock Churches’ Environment Group and pupils from the parish school took part in the Cherishing Creation poster exhibition organised by the inter-denominational group earlier this year.
